Approach & Services

I'm a big picture guy (a holistic thinker) with a keen eye for details and a strong will to get things done. In the professional roles and consulting engagements I've had, I have worked with organizations of all sizes and individuals of every stripe to translate big and fuzzy ideas into tangible activities and outcomes. The intersection of creativity, business and social impact is my sweet spot. I like working with creative people from producers to technologists to communication artists and have worked for clients ranging from U.N. agencies to international development banks to arts nonprofits.

My recent work falls into four categories:

Organizational planning

Executive advisory services

Proposal writing

Retreat and meeting facilitation

Resume

I've done everything from evaluating an over $100 million national arts education program to researching and writing content for a newsletter for a global cultural leaders network to leading a capital campaign for a new youth art center to developing new institutes and centers in a leading art school to writing conference papers and facilitating workshops for a global summit to writing strategic plans, business plans, development plans, grant and sponsorship proposals, and research and evaluation studies - to name just a few of my many consulting adventures. I've delivered around 40 client engagements in my nearly 14 years as a consultant. I've also been directly and indirectly involved in raising over $77 million in funding for a wide variety of projects and programs in the U.S and internationally.

Testimonials

I worked with David for a number of years and always found him to be a very smart, professional, productive and hard-working colleague. He could cope with a demanding and challenging workload and still be relied upon to produce outstanding results.
— Colin Kirkpatrick, Head of Research and Enterprise at The Glasgow School of Art
David [was] a valued member of the team in the School of the Arts at VCU, serving in a number of roles in support of research, innovation, and strategic planning. He invariably produces reports and other documents of high quality and provides individualized support to faculty working on the development of external research proposals. His previous experience with international consulting and funding support for the creative arts in London and elsewhere has been very beneficial to the team.
— Susan King Roth, Professor Emerita and former Senior Associate Dean, VCU School of the Arts
David is an experienced project manager, strong on client relationships and comfortable with juggling a number of varied projects at the same time.
— Hasan Bakhshi, Director Creative Industries at NESTA, Research Fellow at Queensland University of Technology
David is one of the most reliable persons I know. His honesty, and manners, together with his commitment and expertise, made him a very valuable partner at all the projects I shared with him.
— Felipe Buitrago Restrepo, Director TICTAC at Cámara Colombiana de Informática y Telecomunicaciones
